Despite the changeover to laptops and netbooks, desktops are still very common for situations where portability is not a requirement. Desktop computers also have the advantage that they can be easily expanded with additional connectivity, monitors, keyboards etc.

Desktop computers are also probably slightly cheaper for the same performance. Statistically, desktop computers also have a lower hardware failure rate than laptops due to extra cooling amongst other things. As a result, desktops are still very suitable machines for office envirnonments.
